Delhi Designates Rajiv Chowk and Salimgarh Stretch as the City's Premier Food Truck Hubs

Delhi is on the brink of a culinary transformation in the coming year, with two prominent locations officially designated as part of the highly anticipated late-night food truck initiative proposed last year.



In June 2023, the Delhi government enthusiastically approved a groundbreaking project aimed at establishing food truck stations at approximately 16 strategic locations throughout the city. This innovative food truck policy was conceived as a strategic measure to invigorate the night economy and bolster employment opportunities. After meticulous consideration, two prime locations have been identified to spearhead this initiative: one in the vicinity of the Salimgarh stretch and the other near the bustling Rajiv Chowk Metro Station.

As the project gains momentum, further locations are expected to be earmarked through consultations with key land-owning agencies, including the Delhi Transport Corporation and the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB). The collaborative effort aims to create a network of vibrant food truck hubs, enriching Delhi's culinary landscape.

The operation and maintenance of these food truck hubs will be entrusted to concessionaires, selected through a competitive bidding process. The chosen concessionaires will play a pivotal role in overseeing the day-to-day activities of the Food Truck Hubs, and a licensing fee, coupled with a profit-sharing arrangement, will be established based on the commercial viability of the designated areas.

Atishi Singh, the Minister of Public Works Department (PWD), underscored the commitment to upholding elevated standards of aesthetics, sanitation, and hygiene at all food destinations. Singh emphasized that with the implementation of this policy, Delhi residents will have the delightful opportunity to savor a diverse range of delicacies even during late hours, significantly contributing to the city's dynamic gastronomic scene. The paramount objective of the policy is to create a secure and pleasant dining environment for patrons, prioritizing their well-being and satisfaction.
