Smurfey's Smokehouse BBQ & Breakfast in Memphis Launches a New Takeout Outlet

Memphis' beloved Smurfey’s Smokehouse BBQ & Breakfast has expanded its presence with a new brick-and-mortar location. The establishment, which officially opened on January 12 at 149 Madison Ave., takes over the space formerly occupied by Fam, a fast-casual Asian and sushi restaurant.

Owners Kendrick and Christina Westbrook are excited to bring the food truck experience to a permanent location. The menu features all the favorites from the renowned food truck and introduces new culinary delights.

Describing the concept as a "ghost kitchen," Kendrick Westbrook explains that patrons can conveniently order online or in-person for takeout. The restaurant has partnered with delivery services like Uber and DoorDash, offering customers the flexibility to enjoy their meals at home. Kendrick humorously characterizes it as a "food truck with a better kitchen."

Since its inception in 2012, Smurfey’s has garnered a reputation for serving delectable barbecue in creative ways. Kendrick's Loaded Potatoes and Barbecue Nachos have become customer favorites. The top-selling item, the Chicken and Veggie Potato, features a garlic butter-seasoned potato layered with Smurfey's signature sauce, cheese, smoked chicken, and a vegetable medley of broccoli, cauliflower, and carrots.

When asked about the secret ingredients in Smurfey’s sauce, Kendrick playfully attributes its magic to "love." The new menu also boasts several vegetarian options, allowing patrons to enjoy loaded potatoes or fries topped with a delicious blend of spinach and mushrooms.

For those with a sweet tooth, the Grilled Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich is sure to satisfy. This delightful sandwich, griddled to perfection, can be ordered with or without bananas and is finished with a dusting of powdered sugar.

In addition to its savory offerings, Smurfey’s introduces breakfast options, including breakfast rice bowls. Kendrick mentions a special touch on the beverage front, with a line of lemonades and sweet teas crafted by his daughter, Grace.

Operating from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, Smurfey’s Smokehouse BBQ & Breakfast welcomes pickup orders, which can be placed by calling (901) 310-4730. Mark your calendars for the grand opening celebration scheduled for January 26-28, promising a delightful introduction to the new culinary haven in Memphis.
